Beware of Fake NFTs on OpenSea

If you are a fan of Blockscape’s Rocketpool Validator NFTs, a collection of NFTs that represent minipools for the Rocketpool decentralized staking protocol, you may want to be careful when browsing OpenSea, the largest marketplace for NFTs.

Recently, we have discovered that some scammers have created fake NFTs that look very similar to our original NFTs, but are actually hosted at a different contract address and have no connection to our project. These fake NFTs are being sold at realistic prices, such as 8ETH, in the hopes of tricking unsuspecting buyers into thinking they are getting a rare and valuable item.

We have already reported these fake NFTs to OpenSea and asked them to remove them from their platform, but we urge our community to be vigilant and always check the contract address and the creator profile before purchasing any NFT.

How to Identify Original NFTs on OpenSea

The contract address on the image and the contract_address in the details section of the NFT match the original contract address, which is 0x189d7888802dac487e3d3630285e1980c6302445.

To make verification even easier for our users, we will be releasing a verification tool in the next few days, but in the meantime, please be really careful — as we say in crypto “don’t trust, verify”!

How to Detect Fake NFTs on OpenSea

To help you avoid falling victim to these scams, here are some tips on how to spot fake NFTs on OpenSea:

Verify the Contract Address:

The contract address is a unique identifier for the smart contract that hosts the NFTs. You can find it on the right side of the item page, under the “Details” section. Our original contract address is 0x189d7888802dac487e3d3630285e1980c6302445. If you see a different address, it means the NFT is fake.

Check the Creator Profile:

The creator profile is the account that minted the NFT. You can find it on the right side of the item page, under the “Created by” section. Our original creator profile is “Blockscape_Finance_AG”. If you see a different profile, it means the NFT is fake.

Check the Collection Page:

The collection page is where you can see all the NFTs that belong to a particular collection. You can access it by clicking on the collection name in the upper left corner of the item page. Our original collection page is https://opensea.io/collection/rocketpool-validator-by-blockscape. If you see a different URL, it means the NFT is fake.
